My name is Ile (pronounced ee-lay). I was born and raised in Waukesha, WI and still live here with my husband Luis, and our two beautiful kids. I attended South High School and graduated from UW- Milwaukee with a BA in Political Science. I graduated wanting to pursue a career as an attorney, but was never passionate about it. I've always enjoyed baking but didn't start pursuing it professionally until 2021.
I am simply a working mom who turned her hobby into a side hustle. I don't have any professional culinary training, I am all self- taught.
My goal is to turn Make it Batter into my full time career in the near future. In the past I have worked with a local, Latina, women-owned and operated coffee shop, Catrina Cafe, which was located in downtown Waukesha. I recently partnered up with another local, woman-owned coffee shop, Co-Pilot Cafe. I bake their delicious vegan muffins in a variety of flavors.
I provide a range of desserts, such as Churro or Mocha Tres-Leches Cupcakes and delicious and velvety Flan.
One secret that is not so secret is to avoid overmixing. You'd be surprised how dry a cake can get by overmixing!
Every baker should have a good spatula and whisk. You don't need a fancy expensive stand mixer to achieve a delicious dessert. A little arm muscle goes a long way.
This is tough! My personal favorite is my Chocolate Raspberry! The chocolate cake is so moist, filled with a semi-tart homemade raspberry filling, typically topped with fresh berries, and will make your mouth water. Another favorite is Carrot Cake. Not enough people give it credit, maybe due to having a vegetable? All I know is that everyone needs their daily serving of vegetables, am I right?
